Lieutenant General Aamer Riaz, Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military), (Retired) delivered a talk on ‘Evolution of Pakistan’s Military Thought’. He opened his talk by setting a framework for defining strategic thought, of which military thought is a component. He dilated upon certain enduring and dynamic influences that shape the strategic thought. He discussed evolution of military thought process in India and Pakistan alongwith linkages to historical context. Thereafter, he highlighted impact of Indian military thought on evolution of Pakistan Army’s concepts, doctrines and elaborated the fundamental concept of deterrence. In the end, he explained the impact of nuclear, sub-conventional and hybrid warfare dimensions on Pakistan’s military thought and certain future projections / challenges. Talk was followed by an interactive Questions and Answers session.
