IMPACT OF INFORMATION OPERATIONS AND MASS MEDIA ON STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION AND PERCEPTION MANAGEMENT

Major General Babar Iftikhar, Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) Director General Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) educated student officers on the impact of Information Operations and Mass Media on Strategic Communication and Perception Management. He opened his talk by dilating upon certain conceptual contours of Information Operations and Strategic Communication, their evolution over time and significance / relevance in the prevailing environment. Thereafter, he explained the process of formulating different types of narratives and their place in the overall Information Operations campaign through relevant case studies. He also identified certain vulnerabilities, carried out an assessment of threat emanating from our adversary’s outreach/ disinformation campaigns and challenges in handling electronic / social media. In the end, he gave an insight on the efforts being undertaken by ISPR to counter false propaganda and positive perception management under the hybrid warfare environment.
