KASHMIR DISPUTE AND WAY FORWARD

Mr. Sardar Masood Khan, ex-President Azad Jammu & Kashmir visited Command and Staff College and gave an insightful talk on ‘Kashmir Dispute and Way Forward’. He initiated his talk by establishing the ideological context of creation of Pakistan based on the vision of Quaid-e-Azam. Thereafter, he dilated upon the contours of Pakistan’s foreign policy with emphasis on dispute resolution and Kashmir issue. After taking a stock of the prevailing geo-strategic environment, he gave an insight on the latest situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJ&K) in the aftermath of 5 August 2019 actions of the Indian State. He highlighted that Kashmiris are living in a perpetual state of violence and being subjected to worst kind of state oppression. He exposed the Indian policies of changing the demography aimed at absorbing IIOJ&K and delegitimizing Kashmiris while brazenly violating international norms & United Nations’ resolutions. He said that plight of Kashmiris is the greatest of human tragedies where violence and rape is used as a political weapon to silence the voices of dissent. He underscored that while the international community remains insensitive to the issue primarily due to their vested interests, Pakistan has always followed the international norms and believed in diplomacy under the auspices of United Nations. He pledged that Kashmiris will continue to strive for the fundamental rights of self-determination under the UN charter. Talk was followed by an interactive Questions and Answers session.
