PAKISTAN – AUSTRALIA RELATIONS, CHALLENGES, OPPORTUNITIES AND WAY FORWARD – 12 APRIL 2021

His Excellency Dr Geoffrey Shaw, Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan visited Command and Staff College and delivered a lecture to students on Pakistan – Australia Relations, Challenges, Opportunities and Way Forward. He opened his talk by admiring the rich history of Command and Staff College spanned over 115 years and the strong diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Australia while specially focusing on the defence cooperation and military exchange programme. He also appreciated contribution and sacrifices made by Pakistan Army in Global War on Terrorism and United Nations Peace Keeping Operations. He explained Australian perspective of strategic environment in the Indo Pacific Region, while making a special mention of economic connectivity, which is in the national interest of all countries in the region. He highlighted various areas of cooperation at present and in the future between the two countries including combating terrorism, climate change, people to people contact, food security, disaster management, economic engagement and sports etc. In the end he dwelled upon the purpose, role and functioning of Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (commonly known as Quad) and the areas in which member countries are cooperating with each other. Talk was followed by a candid interactive session.
