Major General Iftikhar Hassan Chaudhary, Director General Pakistan Rangers Sindh educated the student officers on role of Civil Armed Forces (CAF) in maintaining security of a mega polis with special focus on Karachi. He initiated his talk by explaining the common characteristics, similarities and dissimilarities of various mega polis of the world in administrative and security domains. He identified requirement of a special security mechanism as the most glaring similarity applicable to all mega polis. While taking about role of Rangers in Sindh, he explained the evolution of the force, its hierarchy, organizational structure and disposition in the province. He also highlight the legal and constitutional provisions for employment of Rangers in Sindh and its mandated tasks. He then dwelled upon the situation in Karachi pre and post 2013 operations, wherein Rangers actions revolved around shrinking space for the Terrorists and gaining sustained public confidence. Thereafter, he explained the dynamics of prevailing threat / challenges and contours of the response mechanism. While concluding his talk, he gave an insight on the future imperatives and certain key takeaways for employment and success of CAFs in complex dynamics of a mega polis. The talk was followed by an interactive Questions and Answers session.
